Kenya’s claim to fame is its most prized possession – its incredible wildlife and naturally abundant open wilderness. Through many a famous name, including that of Ernest Hemingway, a Kenyan Safari has been immortalised as the home to this extraordinary experience in Africa. Kenya romanced the hearts and souls of Hemingway and Karen Blixen to name a few, and in turn has been written about and filmed, capturing those of many more around the world.
A marvel of natural beauty and incredible herds of wildlife, Kenya sets the scene for an exceptional safari experience. You can be forgiven for feeling as if you are a part of a scene straight out of the classic movie, Out of Africa that was filmed in Kenya's wilderness. Home to the famous Big Five and a fantastic year round concentration of game sightings such as that of the black maned lion, cheetah, hippo, elephant, zebra and buffalo, the Masai Mara also sees the thundering hooves of a truly special event, the annual Great Migration as millions of herbivores make their way through the Serengeti – Mara ecosystem. Mid to late July marks the start of the best time of year to witness this incredible spectacle in Kenya as the herds begin moving towards to Mara River from the Serengeti, where they will begin crossing during the month of August. Between September and October, you can witness the mass herds as they settle within the Masai Mara National Reserve before heading back south again to the Mara River before the month of November.
Kenya’s charm is in its pristine natural wilderness and extraordinary wildlife. Game viewing opportunities whilst on a Kenyan safari are filled with adventure and many a unique encounter to be had with its wildlife. What’s on offer is an safari experience exceeding your own expectations as well as an opportunity to get a glimpse of the Maasai way of life that is lived side by side with Kenya’s natural treasures.
Kenya’s diversity allows you the opportunity to stretch your legs and marvel at the extraordinary culture in and around its wilderness areas, as well as savour the idyllic ways of tropical island life. Kenya has already been discovered by many a writer, conservationist and filmmaker of yesteryear. It still exists in all of its true natural wonder, awaiting your arrival to experience it for yourself today.

“I walked into Bateleur Camp feeling extremely tired and weary, and was automatically transported into a luxurious haven. Friendly, helpful faces catered to my every need. I sat outside my beautifully appointed room to watch an array of animals wander aimlessly and peacefully just metres in front of me. The guides skillfully navigated me through the Mara with a passion and enthusiasm that was infectious! And what better than to lie by the lovely pool in an idle heap for the afternoon processing the morning’s drive, soaking up the African sun and preparing for the evening’s delicacies? I only wondered in awe how they could produce such fabulous cuisine in such a remote and breathtaking spot.”

“Since I was a young boy, I had dreamed of the wide open plains I had seen so many times at the movies and on TV. Then one day I found myself in an aeroplane landing in Nairobi. Wow, this is really happening. I was 45 at the time, but in my mind I was a young, 30-year-old explorer. Sitting in the small plane, flying over the land I have dreamed about for so many years, left me speechless. Emotions were running high. Kichwa Tembo Masai Mara Tented Camp is exactly what I wanted this experience to be.
Wild, with all the luxury one could wish for. Sitting on a leather chair, gazing out over the plains, watching hundreds of wild animals passing by, left me wondering how soon I would be able to come back to this Eden. We were very fortunate to have a ranger and tracker for just the two of us, so travelling through the Masai Mara become a very intimate affair and we felt very, very privileged. Everywhere we looked there were thousands of God's creatures, big and small, crawling or flying - it was wonderful. A dream come true and an adventure I will treasure for the rest of my life.”
Fulfilled Dream - Allan Bower
